The UAB Center for the Public Trust student chapter opens a new website was recently recognized as a Golden Star Chapter by the NASBA Center for the Public Trust (CPT) for the 2020-21 academic year. The Golden Star Chapter designation is an honor awarded to student chapters that lead with excellence and cultivate an environment of ethical behavior on campus.
Nationally, Center for the Public Trust has 46 chapters; UAB was one of 13 to receive this honor. Each chapter must meet certain criteria to be eligible for the honor. In addition to having elected officers and regular chapter meetings, Golden Star Chapters must participate in approved community service activities, promote StudentCPT ethics competitions, and participate in the StudentCPT Leadership Conference.
"The Golden Star Chapter Award is affirmation that our students' hard work and passionate defense of ethics in business is recognized and confirmed," said accounting instructor Maria Athienitis, mentor and faculty advisor for the UAB StudentCPT chapter. "It is a reflection on the quality of speakers, superior student leadership and talent of ethical business professionals produced by our school."
The UAB chapter was awarded the 2021 Viewer's Choice Award opens a new website in the center's "Ethics in Action" video competition.
Established in 2005 by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy in the wake of numerous corporate accounting scandals, the NASBA Center for the Public Trust (CPT) is a non-profit organization that champions the public trust by advancing ethical leadership in business, institutions and organizations.
The UAB StudentCPT chapter's new status is recognized on CPT's website. The organization's student officers for 2021-22 pictured below include Brendan Haight, president; Bradley Pinkerton, vice president; Jackie Nhu Dang, treasurer; and Julie Godwin, secretary.
