Instructor Randy Kornegay, M.A., has been named the 2020 recipient of the UAB President's Award for Excellence in Teaching for the Collat School of Business. Kornegay was recognized for his dedication to educating students on the importance and power of effective business communication.
Kornegay has taught more than 2,500 students across 125 courses at the graduate and undergraduate level in his 15-year tenure at UAB. Since 2009, Kornegay has served as Business Communications Coordinator, responsible for course development and onboarding adjunct faculty.
"Randy has strong support from students and continually exemplifies the values of our business school that ensures our undergraduate and graduate students academic and professional success," Paul Di Gangi, Ph.D., wrote in his nomination of Kornegay. "Communication is at the very foundation of business, and Randy focuses not only on teaching the fundamentals of grammar but also on the power of communication in its style and purpose."
Kornegay received both bachelor's and master's degrees in English from UAB in 2001 and 2005, respectively. Outside of education, Kornegay has consulted with Encompass Health, Regions, the Mayo Clinic, Alabama Power, and Warren, Averett, Kimbrough, & Marino Executive Education on their communications. Kornegay also has written articles for The Cooperative Accountant about organizational communication and document design.
"I love what I do and feel privileged to teach at Collat, and I recognize the value we all bring to the lives of our students, both inside and outside the classroom. In my opinion, there is no greater role we have than serving our students," says Kornegay.
