The packing event will be part of the observance of the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, which demonstrates the spirit of unity, service and shared humanity that rose in the U.S. following the events of 9/11/01, “9/11 Day.” This special event is supported by 9/11 Day and AmeriCorps.
“Unfortunately, food insecurity is closer than we think within our communities,” said Peyton Stephenson, president of UAB’s BAP chapter. “Volunteers and sponsors of our September 11th Feed the Funnel Party will have the opportunity to give back by packing healthy meals, by hand, for the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama. Not only will this event be full of energy, friendly faces, and music and dancing, but it is also a chance to commemorate those who were lost and injured during 9/11 and those heroes who served that day.”
UAB Beta Alpha Psi students first participated in a Feed the Funnel event during the organization’s annual conference in July 2022. More than 100 participants bagged 67,000 meals in two hours.
