The UAB National Alumni Society has named Alicja Foksinska a 2021 UAB Rising Star, a prestigious honor given to only five UAB alumni each year.
The UAB Rising Star award, established in 2017, identifies, recognizes and honors young alumni committed to serving the institution and local community while showing exceptional ability to excel personally and professionally.
To be eligible for the award, nominees must be 35 years of age or younger, hold an undergraduate or graduate degree from UAB, possess significant professional accomplishments and demonstrate service to UAB as a student or alumni.
Foksinska was nominated for the award for her continued dedication to the accounting profession and service as mentor and instructor for UAB accounting students.
A graduate of the management and information systems programs, Foksinska serves as a credential course instructor for the Collat School of Business (learn more about the Data Visualization for Business course opens a new website she teaches) as well as Lead IT Auditor for Protective Life. She also serves on the Collat Dean's Young Alumni Council and as a mentor in Collat's Janet Herring Mentorship Program opens a new website.
"It is such an honor to be one of the UAB Rising Stars," says Foksinska. "Being recognized by the award is special to me, as it means that I'm being my authentic self and living out the UAB values that were instilled in me as a student – values that still serve as my personal guiding principles to this day."
The fifth class of Rising Star recipients will be honored during a virtual ceremony on Tuesday, September 14.
