  • General Rental Policies

    • All facility spaces may be rented during non-peak times (5a-4p, Monday- Friday).
    • Letter of Agreement turned in one week prior to start of the event.
    • Peak time reservations (4-close, Monday- Friday) will be considered on a situational basis.
    • Requests should be turned in a minimum of two weeks prior to the event request date.
    • All rentals must be paid one week prior to the reservation. If rentals are not paid one week prior, they will be cancelled.
    • All external groups are required to submit proof of liability insurance. A minimum of Two Million dollars' worth of insurance is required.
    • All cancellations must be made 48 hours prior to the reservation. Groups that do not show up without prior cancellation on the day of the scheduled reservation will not be eligible for a refund.
    • All groups must follow the policies and procedures for each designated area.
    • All decorations, food, drink, signage, etc. must be approved by the Department of Campus Recreation prior to the event. Details not listed on the event confirmation will not be permitted during the event.
    • Damage to the facility, equipment or any UAB property will be billed to the group.
    • Excessive clean-up requiring additional staffing hours may be billed to the group.

    After Hours/Non-Operating Hour Rentals

    For rentals that continue after hours, an additional $100 per hour may be charged to the group, depending on the number of participants.

    The UAB Recreation Center is available for lock-ins, after proms and other after hour functions. For a minimum of three hours, schools, churches and other groups will have exclusive use to four basketball courts, center court, studio spaces, racquetball, game room and the lobby.

    • The Climbing Wall maybe reserved for a minimum of two hours during the event at the rate of $100.00 per hour.
    • The rental fee for after hour parties is $1,500.00 that includes access for 250 participants (including chaperones).
    • Participants over 250 can be included at $3.00 per person.
    • One chaperone for every 10 people under the age of 18 is required.
    • Groups requiring police attendance will be billed based on the current UAB Police hourly rate.
    • There will be additional staffing costs if your event takes place after normal hours of operation.

    Group Entry

    The UAB Campus Recreation Center is an excellent choice for your end of the year school party, class outing or other large group event. At a discounted rate of $8.00 per person your group will have shared usage of all activity areas during normal operating hours. This includes basketball courts, racquetball courts, center court, the lobby, the pool, locker rooms, climbing wall and the game room.

    • Group admission is based on 40 or more people with total count including chaperones.
    • Groups are required to have one chaperone for every ten minors and coverage in all activity areas.
    • Group admission does not include use of the fitness equipment, the climbing wall, program offerings or membership privileges outside of the stated contract.
    • Group admission does not include exclusive use of any space. Exclusive space rental requests will incur an additional cost.
    • It also allows entry into the recreation center and usage of any area.
    • There will be no set up from the facility staff.
    • Groups may not bring food into the facility.
    • Groups must provide proof of liability insurance at least 2 weeks prior to scheduled attendance. The provided liability insurance must be a minimum of 2 Million Dollars.

      The UAB Campus Rec Aquatics Center features four 25-yard long swim lanes. There is a robust aquatic facility with a vortex and a hot tub.

      Pool Rental Specifications

      Up to 30 people* $100/hour
      31 - 50 people* $150/hour

      * People are defined as swimmers, non-swimmers, chaperones, counselors, etc.
      ** The maximum number of people is based upon the number of lifeguard stands stationed in the leisure pool area (does not include lap lanes) with a 25 patron to 1 lifeguard ratio.

      • Rental rates are based on an hourly cost.
      • Space rental costs do not include staffing. Additional staffing will be required for events of 15 or more people and at the discretion of the Department of Campus Recreation.
      • Large scale events requiring setup may be charged an additional setup/teardown fee. This fee will be based on number of tables, tarps, chairs, staffing, etc.

      Center Court

      This center court was designed with indoor soccer and hockey in mind. The rubber surface, rounded corners and recessed goals provide the perfect backdrop for indoor court sports and badminton. The court is lined for the following sports: soccer, basketball, volleyball and badminton. Onlookers can enjoy tournaments and intramural games from the built-in bleachers. This court is often used as a facility rental space for orientations, expos and more!

      Racquetball Courts

      Five enclosed court areas are available for games of racquetball with one court convertible to squash. Members can also enjoy wallyball, a game similar to volleyball, but played on a racquetball court. For reservations, contact the Equipment Issue Desk at 205.934.8224. Reservations can be made 24 hours in advance.

    Special Event Pricing Summary

    We have implemented Special Event Pricing in order to better accommodate larger events and provide more adequate customer service to these groups. These events include but are not limited to graduation receptions, birthday parties, bridal showers, baby showers, tournaments, and other receptions held on Courts 1-4, Center Court, or in the Aquatics Center. The below pricing includes setup and breakdown along with extra staffing and cleaning.

    Rental Rules and Regulations

    General Facility Policies

    The Facility Supervisor has complete authority in the UAB Recreation Center. Facility damages or excessive cleaning fees related to a rental will be billed to the group or organization. Food and beverages are allowed in the Lobby Area, Patio, Center Court and Classroom 192 only. Plastic water bottles (containing only water) with a lid or spout may be used in the activity areas. No coolers, folding chairs, tents or alcoholic beverages may be brought into the CRCT. All decorations should be taped on the windows or walls. Do not tape decorations from the ceiling tiles. Confetti, glitter, etc. can cause damage to the pool systems and are not permitted. Rental groups are responsible for any damage or vandalism to the Classroom. At the conclusion of the party, groups are expected to pick up and discard all trash and decorations. Pool parties must utilize the Wet classroom for cake or presents at the end of their party, after swimming. In accordance with the CDC children under the age of five will not be permitted to use the spa. Children under the age of 15 must limit spa use to 15 minutes or less.

    Participant Disclaimer

    The number of estimated participants must be submitted to the department of campus recreation at the time of the reservation if the number of participants that are present for the rental is significantly greater than the estimated number, the Facility Supervisor reserves the right to charge an additional $8 per person, or cancel the event with forfeit of deposit. Failure to do so may cause the department of campus recreation to cancel the reservation.

    Rental Disclaimer

    Payments for rentals must be made in full one week before the scheduled event. The Department of Campus Recreation reserves the right to cancel any events that are not paid for by the stated timeline.

    All cancellations must be made 48 hours prior to the reservation. Groups that do not show up without prior cancellation on the day of the scheduled event will not be eligible for a refund. All rental groups may be required to hire and pay for additional staff to manage group entry to the facility.
