What is the calorimeter timeline?
- February – March 2024: Mobilization and Demolition (installation of protective barriers and demolition noises)
- March – May 2024: Wall Framing and Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing (MEP) Rough-In (material deliveries and scheduled utility interruptions)
- April – May 2024: Set Calorimeter Equipment (coordinated deliveries and equipment installation)
- May – July 2024: Installation of New Finishes (drywall, painting and flooring)
- July – August 2024: Final Inspections and Equipment Start Up (building inspections, equipment deliveries, startup and training)

Which floor will be the first for work to begin?
The 5th floor was the first due to delays in supplies. Construction began on Monday, March 4. However, expect all floors to be worked on simultaneously.

Where will breakrooms and mail/copy rooms be on the floors under construction?
- Breakroom 6th Floor: WEBB 624 has a coffee maker and other kitchen items.
- Breakroom 4th Floor: WEBB 412 has a refrigerator, ice machine, microwave and sink. Be aware WEBB 412A is used for patient testing - please avoid WEBB 412 when testing is in progress.
- Mail Room 6th Floor: WEBB 624 is now the main mail room and copier room for the department.

Will the elevators work during construction?
Yes and we ask that you please use the public elevators. These are the two elevators in the northeast corner of WEBB - the area that provides access to/from the plaza and our clinic waiting area. The service elevator - located in the interior of WEBB - will be used by the contractors.

Where will Nutrition Sciences PhD students be housed?
During construction, WEBB 346 and 346A are designated for use by Department of Nutrition Sciences PhD students.

At times construction noise can get loud. Where can we find a quiet space to work?
We will let you know immediately whenever we learn that construction noise may be an issue. If you ever need a quiet space to work, the LRC has multiple meeting rooms and there are study areas on each floor in SHPB.

WEBB was built in the early 1980's. Has any asbestos been found?
No. Preliminary testing has not identified any asbestos.

How many students will the new classrooms hold?
Each of the three new classrooms will host 50 or more students. They will have completely new furnishings, new audio/visual, and new finishes. Plus, the furniture will not be fixed – all furniture will be moveable allowing for flexible classroom space and ideal interactions among students, staff and faculty.

How will we know who should be in the building?
First and foremost - do not provide entry to anyone without a UAB ID badge - regardless of building.
All construction workers have their own ID badge with a specific ID number. And the construction crews have people designated to let their workers into the building.

Are there plans to renovate the 3rd and 4th floors?
The renovations on the 5th and 6th floor of WEBB have been planned for a long time. The School of Health Professions will continue to follow the guidance spelled out in the SHP Strategic Growth Plan 2022-2026. All resources will continue to go toward enhancing the four pillars of the plan: Education, Research and Innovation, Community Engagement, and Clinical Enterprise.

What are plans for the artistic features housed in the WEBB lobby?
The portraits and the other pieces have been safely stored to avoid damage during construction.
