Amy Y. Landry, Ph.D., the University of Alabama at Birmingham Howard W. Houser Endowed Professor in Health Administration, is the winner of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration, Quint Studer Gratitude Prize for Teaching Excellence.

Landry, program director of the M.S. in Health Administration graduate programs, serves as an example to her students and colleagues as someone who embodies qualities such as dedication, resilience, and determination.

“Dr. Landry is committed to continuous improvement of the MSHA program and hosts a yearly retreat where the faculty spend half a day reviewing the program and sharing their feedback and ideas for improvement,” says Heather Lee, MPH. “Based on the suggestions generated by these retreats and other meetings, she has led the re-design and implementation of several major program changes with the approval of the MSHA faculty.”

It has become quite common for a line to form outside of Landry’s office of colleagues stopping by seeking guidance or advice. In addition to her mentorship, Landry’s dedication to teaching and her significant contributions are perhaps some of her greatest attributes. Her devotion to her students’ development shows in how she is celebrated and championed by them.

“Dr. Landry is the gold standard of sincerity,” said a student in a nomination letter. “She makes each of her students feel significant and genuine belonging. No matter how packed her schedule is, she always creates time to stop, smile, and make us feel we are the most important person at that moment. The level of confidence she gives us is worth more than two years of top-tier education.”

Landry currently teaches a plethora of courses including, Marketing, Comparative Health Systems, and Introduction to Health Systems.

Landry’s commitment to the growth of her students and devotion to the craft of teaching mirror the core values of the Quint Studer Gratitude Prize for Teaching Excellence.

“It is an honor to be selected as the second recipient of the Quint Studer teaching award. Quint started his career as a teacher, so he has always expressed appreciation for the role that educators play in developing healthcare leaders,” said Landry. “Over the course of my career, I have been fortunate to learn from great mentors and colleagues, including the community of scholars within AUPHA. It gives me great joy to work with students and to see the changes they are making to improve our health system. I am humbled by this recognition.”

The MSHA program, the #1 health care management graduate program in the nation according to the latest rankings according to U.S. News & World Report, is housed in the UAB School of Health ProfessionsDepartment of Health Services Administration.
