Healthy volunteers between the ages of 19 and 45 needed for an MRI research study. Study procedures include a clinical interview, a one hour MRI scan, and a 30 minutes MRI scan. Compensation up to $110. If you are interested please call a member of our research staff at (205) 996-9813.
Are you currently pregnant? If you are 14 to 39 years of age, less than 18 weeks pregnant, and planning to deliver at UAB, you may be eligible for our education based study. This study focuses on learning about healthy behaviors and how to make positive changes that could lead to a healthier pregnancy for both you and your baby. There are four study visits spread out over 13 weeks during pregnancy and one brief post-delivery visit where study staff visit participants in the post-partum unit. Participation includes a one-on-one education session, answering several questionnaires, and collecting lab work, including blood, mouth swabs & self-collected urine samples, and vaginal swabs. Also, three times during the study, participants are given a packet to collect two swabs at home and mail them in. Participants are compensated $230 for completing all study visits and specimens. Researchers in the UAB School of Medicine are recruiting individuals 18 years and older who have drank alcohol in the past year. The study involves completing a brief online screening questionnaire to determine your eligibility. You may be eligible to participate in a research study: If you are a healthy female, between age of 18-50, still having a regular menstrual cycle & you are NOT on hormonal birth control (birth control pills or shots (i.e. Depo shot) or IUD, like Mirena). And, if you are willing to undergo an endometrial biopsy procedure. Participants will be compensated total of $200. Only requires 2 visits. We are looking for individuals with spinal cord injury to participate in a home based exercise program for improving cardiometabolic health outcomes, such as body weight, blood sugar, cholesterol, and cardiovascular fitness. To qualify you must have a confirmed diagnosis of SCI at the cervical or thoracic level (C7-T12, classified as A, B, C, or D on the AIS scale), be at least 3 years post-injury, aged 19-65 years old. Participants will exercise for 16-weeks from home using an arm crank cycle ergometer and will receive $300 for completing the study. You may be eligible to participate in a research study about the effects of Exercise and Metoprolol (a blood pressure pill) on a protein in your blood. This protein is related to heart disease. Eligible participants must be Healthy men and women, African American or Caucasians, and have no history of diabetes, heart problems, or kidney problems. The study involves performing the exercise, taking metoprolol, consuming prepared meals, and collecting blood samples. Participants will be compensated $350 for completing the study visits. DAY or NIGHT when is the right time to take blood pressure medication?? Help us to find out by joining our study. You may be eligible to participate in a research study about the effects of Sacubitril/Valsartan or Valsartan on your body’s 24-hour rhythm of a hormone in your blood called natriuretic peptides. This hormone and the study medications are related to the heart. Eligible participants must be obese (BMI: 30-45 kg/m2) men and women, have high blood pressure, and have no history of heart problems or kidney problems. The study involves wearing a blood pressure monitor for 24-hours, 24-hour inpatient visits, taking medications, and collecting blood and urine samples. Meals will be provided at no cost. Women 18 years and older who are currently experiencing any vaginal symptoms are invited to participate in a research study evaluation a new diagnostic test for bacterial vaginosis and vaginal yeast infection. Minimum Eligibility Requirements: • You are 18- to 35-years-old. • You are currently wearing glasses/contact lenses. • You know how to use soft contact lenses. • You have had an eye exam within the last 2 years This study includes four to six visits, which will happen over ten weeks. If eligible, you will be compensated $20 to $40/visit with a maximum of $140 for your participation in the study. Do you have Urinary Leakage? If you are eligible (women 65 years or older), you will take part in a 12-week hip muscle exercise program, individualized sessions taught by a licensed physical therapist specialized in hip strength.
