Born and raised in Baltimore MD, Dr. Gordon graduated from Washington University (St. Louis) and from the UAB School of Optometry. He was the first student to graduate from the combined OD/MPH program at UAB. Dr. Gordon currently teaches several courses in the professional program: Geometric and Clinical Optics, Clinical Ophthalmic Optics, Advanced Contact Lens Elective, and Public Health Optometry.
Dr. Gordon is the Director of the Cornea and Contact Lens Service and serves as the Coordinator of the Cornea and Contact Lens Residency Program. He is an attending clinical instructor in the Cornea and Contact Lens Service and the Primary Eye Care Service. He also sees patients at the University Optometric Group, the faculty private practice. His clinical interests are caring for patients with diseases/injuries of the cornea and comanaging patients needing ocular surgery. He also enjoys seeing complex and challenging contact lens patients.
Dr. Gordon has a unique perspective on teaching optometry students at UAB. “I am privileged to teach courses in the first year of the program and also supervise fourth year interns ready to graduate. This allows me to witness the incredible transformation of these young people into confident, highly skilled doctors eager to serve their communities. It is truly an honor to help train the next generation of optometrists at UAB.”
