BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Music will present a new season of performances for fall 2010, including free recitals by faculty members, as well as free student recitals and concerts.
Upcoming free events include performances from many of the department's 17 ensembles, including the UAB Wind Symphony, Symphony Band, Computer Music Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Gospel Choir, Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Piano Ensembles, Guitar Ensembles, Opera, Brass Ensembles, Woodwind Ensembles, Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combos.
Faculty recitals will include performances by Kristine Hurst-Wajsczcuk, D.M.A., assistant professor of voice; guitar trio featuring Assistant Professor Jeremy Grall, D.M.A.; trumpet performance by Marc Reed, D.M.A., assistant director of bands; Denise Gainey, D.M.A., assistant professor of clarinet; accompaniment by Dale Reynolds, M.M., assistant chair of the department, and more.

The UAB Department of Music will present the UAB Piano Series, which brings the world's finest pianists to Birmingham. First in the three-concert series is David Korevaar, soloist, chamber musician and associate professor of piano at the University of Colorado at Boulder; he will perform Sunday, Sept. 19 in UAB's Alys Stephens Center.
The UAB Gospel Choir will celebrate its 15th anniversary with a fall concert Nov. 22, which will feature a reunion choir with members from the past 15 years.
Christmas at the Alys, an annual celebration presented by the department, is a free, family-friendly holiday choirs favorite on Sunday, Dec. 5.

The UAB Department of Music presents more than 150 concerts, recitals, master classes and lectures each year - many of them free - for more than 400,000 people throughout the region.
