BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Teresa DuPree Bragg, CPA, CHC, has been named university compliance officer for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) effective Jan. 4, 2010.
Bragg comes to the position after serving as vice president-corporate ethics and responsibility at the Nemours Foundation in Jacksonville, Fla. In her new role, she will be the lead UAB senior executive responsible for oversight of university wide compliance priorities and institutional risk assessment and mitigation, and serve as a member of the President's Cabinet.
"Together with the University Compliance Council, Teresa will coordinate all necessary actions to achieve and maintain an effective compliance program, including compliance with rules and guidelines of regulatory agencies, observance of UAB policies and procedures, and ensuring behavior that meets UAB standards of conduct by UAB's management, faculty and employees," said UAB President Carol Garrison.
"Her years of experience and significant achievements in health care systems and successful track record of designing and implementing comprehensive compliance and internal audit programs mean she will be an immediate contributor to our executive leadership team," Garrison said.
Bragg also will coordinate university compliance efforts with UAB Health System (UABHS) compliance programs for UABHS operating entities, which are overseen and managed by UAB Health System. The position she assumes replaces and enhances the former research compliance officer position at UAB. She will have functional accountability to the president.
A graduate of the University of Georgia with a bachelor's in business administration, Bragg is a licensed certified public accountant (CPA) and certified in health care compliance (CHC). She served as first vice president of the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Association and is an advanced member of the Healthcare Finance Management Association.
Prior to joining the Nemours Foundation, Bragg was with Baptist/St. Vincent Health System, also in Jacksonville, where she served as vice president-corporate compliance. She also worked with Baptist Medical Center, Beaches, as chief financial officer and controller.
