UAB Faculty Potpourri Recital, noon, UAB's Mary Culp Hulsey Recital Hall, 950 13th St. S. Presented by the UAB Department of Music. Members of the UAB faculty in concert, including Denise Gainey, clarinet; Jeremy Grall, guitar; Yakov Kasman and Tatiana Kasman, piano four hands; Laura Noah, percussion; Marc Reed, trumpet; Lisa Wienhold, flute; and Dale Reynolds, piano accompanist for all soloists. The program will feature music by 20th century composers. Admission is free.
Sept. 10
Joelutnam Guitar Trio, 7:30 p.m., Mary Culp Hulsey Recital Hall, 950 13th St. S. Presented by the UAB Department of Music. Brian Lutterbie, Joel Smith and Stan Putnam will present an evening of guitar music by Joaquin Turina, Bach, Manuel de Falla and Lutterbie.
Sept. 15
UAB Faculty Recital, 7 p.m., Alys Stephens Center's Reynolds-Kirschbaum Recital Hall, 1200 10th Ave. S., featuring Kristine Hurst, soprano, and Andrew Adams, piano. Presented by the UAB Department of Music. With the theme "Time Flies ...," the repertoire will focus on texts that look back on childhood, reflect on the past and look forward to the afterlife. Music will include lute songs by Renaissance composer John Dowland, Mozart, Schumann, Schubert and Strauss. UAB Associate Professor of Music and baritone Paul Mosteller will join Hurst to offer two songs from Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn ("Youth's Magic Horn"). Other offerings will include French pieces by Liszt, Hahn and Chausson, and English songs by Jake Heggie and Ricky Ian Gordon. Accompanist Andrew Adams is a coach/accompanist currently heading the piano department at Western Carolina University. This multi-media recital will include visual projections to enhance the audience's enjoyment of the music. Admission is free.
