BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Music presents a summer music camp for middle and high school students in grades 6-12, June 14-20, on the UAB campus.

The week-long camp's music-making opportunities include full symphonic band experience, small ensemble participation and training in music technique, theory and literature. Elective sessions include music technology, improvisations, music history, conducting and more. Students also will have the opportunity to study privately with members of the UAB music department faculty and perform on a world-class stage. The camp will be directed by Sue Samuels, M.M., UAB director of bands.

The camp welcomes commuting students, but students are encouraged to get the full camp experience and stay in the new apartment-style dormitory on campus, Blazer Hall. The full camp experience includes housing, meals and evening activities including a pool party, movie night, skit night and game night in addition to music recitals and concerts. During the camp, students will be supervised by 16 UAB music faculty members, as well as UAB graduate students and senior music education students 24 hours a day. The dorms are secure and staffed by UAB security and resident assistants.

The regular camp fee is $425 for resident campers and $300 for commuter campers. However, a $25 discount is offered for early registration by April 27. Final deadline for registration is May 18.
