BIRMINGHAM, AL — Nine of UAB’s most influential leaders were inducted into the Alabama Healthcare Hall of Fame during a ceremony held March 24 in Montgomery.
The Alabama Healthcare Hall of Fame was founded in 1997 to recognize the role of health care in Alabama and to celebrate outstanding contributions made to the state of Alabama.
The UAB inductees are:
Wayne H. Finley, M.D., Ph.D.
Sara Crews Finley, M.D.
Co-founders of the UAB
Laboratory of Medical Genetics.
Linna H. Denny, R.N.
“Pioneer” of Alabama nursing.
S. Richardson Hill, Jr., M.D.
Former dean of the School of Medicine
at UAB; past president of UAB.
Howard L. Holley, M.D.
Medical historian, noted rheumatologist/teacher.
Sandral Hullett, M.D., M.P.H.
UAB alumna; Trustee, University of Alabama System.
John W. Kirklin, M.D.
Chairman of surgery at UAB for 16 years;
renowned cardiothoracic surgeon.
James A. Pittman, M.D.
Served as dean of the School of Medicine at UAB
for 19 years.
Richard E. Powers, M.D.
Advocate of mental health services for geriatric patients in Alabama.
Created the UAB Brain Bank. Since its inception, the Healthcare Hall of Fame has inducted 33 honorees. It is the first and only statewide healthcare hall of fame in the nation.
