BIRMINGHAM, AL — University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Engineering faculty member Melinda M. Lalor, Ph.D., has been elected president of the American Water Resource Association (AWRA). Lalor is an associate professor in the UAB Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Founded in 1964, AWRA is a 3,000 member non-profit professional association dedicated to the advancement of men and women in water resources management, research and education.
Lalor’s water resource research focuses on storm water pollution prevention, urban watershed management and fate and transport of pathogens in the water environment. Results from her research have been widely published and presented both nationally and internationally.
Lalor earned her Ph.D. in environmental and water resources from Vanderbilt University, her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from UAB and her bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Birmingham-Southern College.
