BIRMINGHAM, AL — The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute today announced the participation of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in a the 10-center North American Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium (ROC) that will enroll Birmingham-region trauma victims in a clinical trial of three different solutions of saline, in an attempt to improve patients’ outcomes.
The clinical trial will begin in the next few months, according to Thomas E. Terndrup, M.D., professor and chair of the UAB Department of Emergency Medicine and principal investigator for the UAB portion of the consortium. The three-year study will bring $3 million to the university during its three-year duration, with the potential for renewals for further periods of time.
