Drs. Rose and HardimanUAB Department of Surgery Professor Karin Hardiman, M.D., Ph.D., and Associate Professor J. Bart Rose, M.D., MAS, have been invited by the University of Cape Town Division of General Surgery to travel to the institution as visiting professors.

About Dr. Karin Hardiman

Dr. Karin Hardiman is a colorectal surgeon in the UAB Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery and a leader of several research initiatives focusing on undergraduate students and residents. Her main research interests lie in enhancing the treatment of colon and rectal cancer through basic and translational research.

She examines the impact of intra-tumor genetic heterogeneity on colorectal cancer metastasis and response to therapy. Additionally, Hardiman explores the significance of multidisciplinary cancer care and survivorship care.

About Dr. J. Bart Rose

Dr. J. Bart Rose is an associate professor in the UAB Division of Surgical Oncology, the section chief of hepatopancreatobiliary surgery, and the director of the UAB Pancreatobiliary Disease Center. He has a combined clinical and research appointment with over twenty years of lab experience.

Over this time, he contributed to scientific knowledge in the fields of molecular genetics, enzymology, oncologic biomarkers, and clinical outcomes. His current focus has been in mechanisms of cancer development and novel treatment strategies for liver, pancreas, and bile ducts cancers (specifically neuroendocrine tumors).
