March marks Women's History Month, and the UAB Department of Surgery Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee commends the team of women who have contributed so much to the department's past and future growth. The team of leaders in the UAB Surgery Chair's Office is highly concentrated by powerful women who have proven careers in healthcare administration.

Division of Transplantation Professor and Surgical Director of Kidney Transplantation Michael J. Hanaway, M.D., was named the inaugural recipient of the Martha Robinson Tankersley Endowed Professorship in Transplant Clinical Excellence.

The department is pleased to welcome Manu Kaushik, M.D., to the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery as an assistant professor.

Before moving to the US, Kaushik completed medical school at Manipal College of Medical Sciences. He then completed his residency in general surgery at Ascension Providence Hospital, Michigan State University, MI. During his residency, Kaushik found interest in outcomes research and continues to examine outcomes in rural Alabama.
