Application
All applications must be submitted in ERAS and all invitations to interview will be sent through Thalamus. Each application will be reviewed holistically by our team. Applicants should have prior experience in PM&R to be considered for an interview.
Applicants will have 72 hours to respond to an interview invitation. After that time, we reserve the right to release the interview slot to another applicant.
We will notify applicants of their status via email. Initial interview invitations will be sent in early October. Applicants will be notified if they are not selected for an interview by early January. Applicants may assume they are on a waitlist until they are notified in early January. We commit that we will not invite more applicants to interview than the number of available interview slots.
Application Submission Deadline: November 1

Chief Residents and current residents host a virtual social hour monthly. These dates will be added in Thalamus and open to anyone invited to interview whose schedule permits attendance. Attendance at this event is not required to be considered for a position, but we hope that applicants are able to attend, as this is a fun opportunity to get to know our residents in a casual setting.
We embrace a holistic interview process. All interviewers participate in implicit bias training.

Supplemental Application
Our program has opted into program signaling for the 2025 ERAS season. However, program signaling and/or selection of geographic preferences are not required to be selected for an interview.
Learn more about the MyERAS application.
There will be a Chat with the Chair/PD session held in January. This is an optional virtual session for you to meet our Department Chair Dr. Nguyen, ask our leaders any last-minute questions, and hear about program/department updates that may have transpired since your interview day. Attending this session has no impact on our rank list. This date/time will be listed on the Thalamus calendar and open to anyone invited to interview whose schedule permits attendance.
UAB GME does offer an in person second look for applicants in all specialties. This is an optional event and aimed at improving the applicants’ understanding of UAB and the surrounding Birmingham area. Applicants who attend UAB’s second look activities will not have opportunities to meet with PM&R faculty or residents during this time. Second look will have no impact on our program’s rank list.
