Dr. Stalvey selected for Executive Committee for ResearchCon 2022
Michael Stalvey, M.D., associate professor in the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes, has been selected to serve on the Executive Committee to plan ResearchCon 2022.
UAB Pediatrics Health Equity Scholars participate in immersive experience in the Black Belt
The Health Equity Scholars and program directors Last week, the UAB Pediatrics Health Equity Scholars spent three days participating in an immersive experience to explore the historical context of health disparities and inequities within Alabama. The group traveled throughout the Black Belt of Alabama, visiting places pivotal to the Civil Rights Movement and areas battling current health disparities and inequities.
Dr. Ilonze wins 2021 Alabama State Chess Championship
Chibuzo Ilonze, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, won the 2021 Alabama State Chess Championship in the Premier Section.
Drs. Blakemore and Sims announced as co-directors of UAB Pediatrics Mini-Medical School

Dr. Gentle selected for AAPVON Scholars Program
The AAP/VON Scholar Awards are awarded every year to five fellows and early career neonatologists by the Vermont Oxford Network (VON) the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section on Neonatal Perinatal Medicine (SoNPM).
Dr. Kong among Birmingham Business Journal Women to Watch 2021
Michele Kong, M.D., professor in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care, has been named one of the Birmingham Business Journal (BBJ) Women to Watch 2021.
Dr. Cron named James T. Cassidy Award recipient
Randy Cron, M.D., professor in the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology, received the 2021 James T. Cassidy Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section on Rheumatology.
Dr. Shukla receives Early Career Speaker Award
Vivek Shukla, M.D., assistant professor in the Division of Neonatology, received the Mead Johnson Nutrition Early Career Speaker Award at the Perinatal Research Society Annual Meeting. Dr. Shukla was honored for his presentation titled, “Advanced Machine Learning Based Prediction of Perinatal Outcomes.”
Dr. Kimberlin receives the 2021 Wallace Alexander Clyde Distinguished Service Award
David Kimberlin, M.D., professor in the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, was awarded the 2021 Wallace Alexander Clyde Distinguished Service Award from the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Veters receives award at ENRICH Week
Michelle Veters, M.D., fellow in the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine, won the poster session award for the Research and Scholarship Category at the Educational Research and Innovations in Clinical and Health Sciences (ENRICH) Week.
