KUH KURE - Kidney, Urology, and non-Malignant Hematology (KUH) Undergraduate Research Experience program is an NIH-funded Summer Research Program allowing you to learn about advances in "KUH" research and be mentored in your research project in a lab by the University of Alabama at Birmingham's renowned KUH community of investigators. This 12-week program (8 weeks on campus) allows you an in-depth experience in biomedical research.

Opportunities
Students are work on an individual project with a faculty mentor and near peer mentor. They work in a team environment of PhD students, post-docs, fellows, and other researchers to work on a project that is supported by on-going NIH or related grants. All projects are related to advances in kidney, urology, and/or non-malignant hematology research. Methodological approaches include a full range of molecular, biochemical, and cell biology approaches, in vitro tissue perfusion and function techniques, as well as chronic animal models that assess renal and vascular function.

- Contact information for two faculty writing letters of recommendation
- Academic transcript including your Fall 2024 grades. This can be sent in separately any time prior to the deadline.
- Candidates will be reviewed on the above completed information
- Top Candidates will be asked to complete a short interview
Acceptance: We begin offering admittance on a rolling basis in February, deadline for all UAB KUH KURE Applications is February 28, 2025
Strong Applicants:
- Minimum GPA of 3.2
- At least 60 credit hours completed by the end of the spring semester
- Preference given to students who have completed advanced biology courses with direct biomedical focus
- Preference given to those interested in nephrology-related biomedical research
