Dear Faculty, Postdocs and Students,
Since the last retreat in 2022, planning for the 30th Gail Cassell Microbiology Research Retreat is well underway. This will be the first out-of-town retreat since 2019 and will be a weekend-long event from Friday, November 8 to Sunday, November 10, 2024, at
Joe Wheeler State Park, pictured above. It’s about a two-hour drive from UAB, west of Huntsville near Florence.  Directions are below.

The Microbiology Department retreat has always been a wonderful opportunity for students, postdocs, and faculty to learn about the outstanding science being conducted in our laboratories, to facilitate in-person interactions and to establish new collaborations in a relaxing environment conducive to creative and innovative thinking.

The agenda is being finalized, but please plan on attending from ~1:30 PM on Friday to noon on Sunday.  Robert Axtell, Ph.D. will be the keynote speaker. Thank you to students and postdocs who have submitted abstracts, which will be selected for either poster or oral presentation. Prizes will be awarded for the best poster and oral presentations.

We look forward to seeing you at the retreat!

Sincerely,

J. Victor Garcia-Martinez, Ph. D. CPC

Charles H. McCauley Endowed Chair in Microbiology
