HopeHouse

Though our residents enjoy team bonding over long call days in the workrooms, we know that spending time together outside the hospital is one of the most important ways to enrich those bonds. The Resident Wellness Committee plans various social and service events throughout the year including Birmingham Barons games, hosting Liver Rounds at one of the many amazing breweries in town, planning holiday parties and toy drives, and so much more. Each quarter, the RWC makes and delivers "Wellness Baskets" filled with a variety of snacks and sweet treats to the inpatient wards teams in addition to hosting "Bedside Bingo", with the winning team receiving a free dinner sponsored by the program. The committee also organizes the residency Patagonias each year.

Annually, the program hosts social events including Camp Dismukes, Chili Cookoff, Crawfish Boil, and Spring Party.

Each year the RWC partners with UAB Pediatrics to host the Holiday Toy Drive. In conjunction with our pediatrics partners, our residents help to raise money to provide holiday gifts to families in need across the state. Last year, the Toy Drive was a multidisciplinary effort including our OBGYN and general surgery colleagues to raise an unprecedented amount of funding for assigned families. We have had multiple community service events in the past including volunteering at Farmers Markets and helping serve dinner at Hope Lodge.
