Advancing multidisciplinary research to understand and address nutrition and obesity-related health issues.
The UAB Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC) supports over 100 researchers investigating obesity and nutrition through its three core laboratories, pilot funding, enrichment programs, and training grants. NORC's mission is to facilitate multidisciplinary basic, clinical, and translational research on the causal factors, consequences, prevention, and alleviation of nutrition and obesity-related health issues. NORC promotes rigorous, creative, and impactful research while training future experts and disseminating new knowledge in this critical area.
NORC Behavioral Science and Analytics Core
Co-Core Director: Tapan Mehta, PhD, Department of Family and Community Medicine Vice Chair for Research
The Behavioral Science and Analytics Core (BSA) of UAB’s NORC supports nutrition/obesity-related, peer-reviewed, federally funded research and NORC-approved pilot and feasibility studies.
NORC BSA incorporates creativity in experimental designs and statistical consultation, supports statistical training, and incorporates novel statistical approaches. This includes efforts to support study design and sample size calculation and to develop and implement statistical analysis plans, electronic data capture, and data management for clinical trials and observational studies. The electronic data capture and use of informatics enhance the capabilities for telehealth studies and facilitate participant engagement. The NORC BSA team has six full-time statisticians and informaticians.
NORC BSA currently supports multiple studies funded by NIH, PCORI, and NIDILRR, including large pragmatic telehealth trials and observational studies.
