Caroline Sullivan's experience with Alabama AHEC’s clinical rotation placements profoundly shaped her path as a nurse practitioner. While attending Samford University’s Nurse Practitioner program, Sullivan connected with a preceptor at Quality of Life Health Services through East Central Alabama AHEC.

After a national search, Becky Reamey, Ph.D., has been promoted to Director of the Alabama AHEC Network. Reamey first joined the Alabama Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Network in late 2021, initially as the Associate Director and later as Interim Director.

The Department of Family and Community Medicine at the UAB Heersink School of Medicine is thrilled to announce a weeklong celebration of Primary Care Week from October 4-11, 2024. This event-packed week aims to educate physicians-in-training and students across the health spectrum on the pivotal role of primary care in the healthcare system. 

UAB and UAB Medicine employees without a primary care provider can now turn to two new Department of Family and Community Medicine physicians. Beginning September 16, an employee-only primary care clinic will offer routine care—including health screenings, vaccinations, and physical exams—as well as treat acute conditions.

In an effort to bolster the residency program and grow much-needed clinical support for the region, the Department of Family and Community Medicine on the UAB Heersink School of Medicine’s Birmingham campus will assume leadership of the UAB Selma Family Medicine Residency Program beginning October 1.
