At the UAB Gregory Fleming James Cystic Fibrosis Research Center, basic science research starts with a fundamental question: How does cystic fibrosis work—and how can we change it?
Our scientists study the biology underlying CF at the most fundamental levels, from genes, proteins, and cells to tissues, organs, and whole-body systems. UAB CF research teams are working to identify new therapeutic targets, develop innovative approaches to correct disease mechanisms, and lay the scientific foundation for future treatments. We bring together expert investigators in molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, cell biology, microbiology, genetics, pulmonary medicine, engineering, and other disciplines. These investigators have access to our specialized research cores with advanced models and technologies to support their research efforts.

National Therapeutics Resource Institute
The major goal of this Institute is to provide an NHLBI-focused centralized resource for genetic modeling in the ferret, with a focus on lung disease and the distribution of biologic resources to study cystic fibrosis ferret models. The Institute also forms collaborative partnerships targeting other diseases. Learn more about the National Therapeutics Resource Institute.
