In support of our community partners, the request for application (RFA) for funding is only open to community-based organizations. The 2023-2024 application period is closed. A 2024-2025 grant has not yet been announced.

RFA funding assists the statewide effort to eliminate HIV and achieve the Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America (EHE) initiatives and the United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) 90-90-90 goals. This opportunity seeks to build upon and expand an organization’s capacity to develop and implement innovative interventions in HIV care. Funding will support new, innovative projects and initiatives that impact the “Diagnose” or “Treat” pillars of the EHE plan.

Current Awardee: UAB Student Health and Wellness

The UAB Student Health HIV Screening Project will provide point of care tests for HIV screenings within the Student Health clinic and during campus outreach events. The Project will provide funding for the HIV tests, venipuncture supplies, lab and medical personnel effort, condoms, and pamphlets discussing safer sex practices. Students may be screened for HIV during a visit with a medical provider or they can walk in for a lab only visit for HIV testing. Once monthly outreach HIV screening will be provided at UAB events within the Birmingham community, such as sorority/fraternity gatherings, Wellness activities, Stress Less week, for example.

The UAB Student Health HIV Screening Project will be supported by the Student Health Clinic which includes lab, counseling, and medical services. UAB Wellness Promotion will support community efforts by combining already funded outreach programs and events on the Birmingham campus with this HIV Screening Project. UAB 1917 Medical Clinic will collaborate with UAB Student Health to support any persons living with HIV via their Linkage to Care team. The goals of the Screening Project are to increase current HIV screening within the Student Health clinic by 25% and will provide 50 free HIV tests per quarter at outreach events on the Birmingham campus.
