Department Benefit Summary
Professional Development
A portion of the Department's annual operating budget is allocated to promote and support the academic growth of our residents each fiscal year. This is accomplished by providing each resident a Professional Development Account (PDA) with a defined level of annual funding. Residents receive $1000 to $1500 per year depending on their year of training to be used for educational expenses. These can include at the resident's discretion
- Professional books and journals
- Software
- Medical equipment such as stethoscopes
- Electronic devices used for educational purposes such as cell phone and personal digital assistants
- Travel expenses for medical meetings
- Medical society memberships
Residents who represent the department presenting research at scientific meetings or as resident representatives to organizations such as the American Society of Anesthesiologists receive additional funding to support these activities.

Residents receive 15 days paid annual vacation each year and 5 paid meeting days for education related travel.
