Pedagogical Studies Concentration with a Focus on TESOL

The Educational Studies in Diverse Populations (ESDP) doctoral program was launched in 2016. Since then, a new cohort has started each Fall of even-numbered years.

Dissertation: Intra-university collaboration between an English language center and a disability resource office to support international students with disabilities: A bridge toward inclusive excellence
Matthias has worked in English language teaching, research, and management in Ireland, the United States, Spain, Mexico, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.

Ph.D. earned in 2022
Dissertation: The role of international faculty in comprehensive campus internationalization
Melissa is the Associate Director for Internationalization at UAB's Center for Teaching and Learning and an Adjunct Instructor in UAB's ESL Teacher Education program.

Melinda Harrison

Ph.D. earned in 2023
Dissertation: International graduate students in a Master of Public Health program: A mixed methods study to identify challenges and needed supports
Melinda is a former Lecturer at Auburn University at Montgomery and Program Administrator of Academic Tutoring at Birmingham-Southern College. Currently, she serves as a Senior Learning Specialist in the UAB Heersink School of Medicine, supporting the learning of diverse medical students.
