Virtual Camps are designed to give parents and children opportunities to do activities at-home together. We know you may need help or fun ideas to keep your young, active children entertained, so we have created activities and provided resources to help! We will continue to update this content and even provide holiday and seasonal activities. Please feel free to reach out to us at This email address is being protected from spambots. We would also love for you to tag us on social media by including @UABUREC or if you are more private, I would still love to see our past and new participants having fun and enjoying our activities, so you can also send us an email and keep it internally.

  • Halloween 2020

    Halloween 2020

Although this Halloween season may be different from years past, the URec Camp Team has put together fun activities for you to do to celebrate. Step away from your day-to-day lives and let's get spooky by relieving some stress and feeling like a kid again!

Use our step by step guide to make Halloween Monster Cupcakes and create your own Halloween Paper Lanterns!

    Halloween Monster Cupcakes

Here are super simple, but yet super fun directions on how to create your own Monster Cupcake!

    You will need:

    • Use premade cupcakes or make your own
    • Assortment of candy (I used candy corn, M&Ms, and Oreos)
    • Candy eyeballs OR make your own (see directions below)

    Directions

    1. Set out all ingredients in separate containers with the cupcake on a separate plate.
    2. Giving the monster hair, teeth, a nose, etc. by adding the candy corn, eyeballs, and any other fun candy you want to include!
    3. To make your own eyeballs:
      • Use mini Oreos by splitting them apart, cutting them in half, and adding a mini M&M onto the Oreo filling
      • Or put the mini Oreos on a toothpick once you split them apart, add the mini M&M, then stick it onto a toothpick for raised eyes!

You can watch our team's step by step video!

    Halloween Paper Lanterns

Decorate your home, office, dorm, or apartment with these Spooky Lanterns!

    You will need:

    • Orange, black, or white construction paper
    • Stapler, glue, or tape
    • Scissors

    Directions

    1. To make the lantern, fold a sheet of paper hotdog style (the lengthwise way). Starting on the folded edge and draw lines spacing about an inch apart. Make sure you leave 1/2 inch free space near the adjacent edge.
    2. Cut the lines (starting at the fold). Make sure you stop 1/2 inch before reaching the edge.
    3. Unfold, take one end and wrap around. Staple the top and bottom of the lantern.
    4. Using shapes cut out of the paper, add faces to your Halloween creatures.

You can watch our team's step by step video!
