Research interests

My research interest is the role of nutrition in preventing and managing chronic diseases, particularly obesity, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. Seeing positive changes in people’s lives motivates me to explore nutritional approaches to chronic disease management. That is why I am passionate about working with communities and conducting clinical trials. I have a deep empathy for vulnerable groups, that drives my research focus to the people with special needs.

Why did you decide to pursue a PhD?

Pursuing a PhD is a step towards fulfilling my childhood dream of becoming a scientist. I want to grow as an independent researcher, and I believe that a PhD is the best structured training pathway to become a good researcher. My research interest is still a broad area. Through a PhD, I wish to find a narrower and focused research interest.

Why UAB?

I wanted to be in a place where a lot of things are happening. A place that can conduct research that other researchers in the field would talk about. I believe our department is a place like that. It has facilities and experienced researchers to make great impacts in the field of nutrition and chronic disease. That is why I was decided to join UAB.

Special interests or hobbies?

I love mountains and enjoy hiking, camping in the wilderness, and kayaking. I prefer to enjoy nature with friends, not alone. I've also loved reading novels since childhood. I collect coins—not antique ones, but current ones. I started when I was eight, with the idea that as I grow older, my collection will become antique. Some of the Bangladeshi coins I saved from my childhood allowance are now out of circulation and considered antique.
