Research Interests

My research interests take an interdisciplinary approach centered on obesity care and the many factors that shape health and treatment. I am interested in the application of social determinants of health, community-based preventive care initiatives, the evolving obesity paradigm, patient experiences with emerging approaches to obesity care, and the relationship between environmental factors and genetic expression.

Why did you decide to pursue a PhD?

I want to contribute to a field where important questions do not remain just that: questions. Through research, I hope to investigate those questions, translate findings into action, and use evidence to inform policies and systems that expand equitable options for health. Ultimately, I hope to contribute to a health system where everyone has the opportunity to access the resources and care needed to live a healthier life.

Why UAB?

UAB’s interdisciplinary approach to nutrition is what drew me to the program. Having experienced my own unconventional introduction to the field, I value the opportunity to explore where my questions may lead rather than feeling confined to where I began. The program’s rotations, mentorship, and diverse research opportunities create the space to explore across disciplines while continuing to shape my interests as a researcher. That flexibility is important to me as I grow into a researcher whose work can evolve alongside the questions I seek to answer.

Any special interests, hobbies, or fun facts?

I am very much a lover of side quests. Whether that means exploring the food scene of a new place, fostering a dog for a day, taking a cooking class, learning pottery, picking up a new book, or planning my next adventure with friends, I love trying new things and the finding joy (and often humor) in the experiences.
