AOM HCM Weech Maldonado FottlerWeech-Maldonado with Fottler at AOM HCMRobert Weech-Maldonado, Ph.D., professor and L.R. Jordan Chair of Health Administration in the UAB School of Health ProfessionsDepartment of Health Services Administration, has been awarded the Myron D. Fottler Exceptional Service Award by the Health Care Management (HCM) Division of the Academy of Management (AOM).

The award, considered by many to be the most distinguished award given by the HCM Division, honors a member that provides extraordinary service to HCM and the profession. Making the honor even more special – it is not required to be awarded annually, but rather given only when someone is identified as a worthy nominee.

“I’m humbled and honored to receive this service award named after Dr. Myron Fottler. Through his mentoring and service to the health care management field, Dr. Fottler has been a role model of exceptional service”, indicated Weech-Maldonado.

Weech-Maldonado is also co-director of the UAB Center for Health Organization Transformation (CHOT). UAB was one of only two University Sites chosen this year by the National Science Foundation. There are only six sites in the United States.

Prior to joining UAB in 2008, Weech-Maldonado was a tenured associate professor at the University of Florida and an assistant professor at Pennsylvania State University. He is the second UAB professor to receive the Fottler Award. In 2013, Stephen J. O’Connor, Ph.D., a colleague of Weech-Maldonado in the HSA department, received the distinguished honor.

In other news from the HCM annual meeting, Shivani Gupta, Ph.D., alumna of the UAB Doctor of Philosophy Administration-Health Services program, won Best Paper Based on a Dissertation for her “Organizational and Market-Level Predictors of Hospital-Based Skilled Nursing Facility Closures” paper.

J’Aime Jennings, Ph.D., also an alumna of the UAB Ph.D. program, was runner up in the Best Paper Based on a Dissertation category for her “Examining the Relationship between Community Orientation and Hospital Financial Performance” paper.
