Tera Webb, ASCLS National Key to the FutureTera Webb, ASCLS National Key to the FutureTera Webb, MS, MLS(ASCP)cm, a teacher in the UAB Clinical Laboratory Sciences program, has been named a National Key to the Future by the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science. The ASCLS rewards those with less than three years’ of membership “who have demonstrated their leadership potential to the organization.”

“My focus from day one has always been solely on making sure UAB students receive the best clinical laboratory education possible – not on awards – so this honor is a huge surprise,” said Webb. “I also want to thank ASCLS because being recognized this early in my career is both humbling and inspiring. I look forward to the challenges and expectations that come with such a prestigious honor.”

Webb, who has taught at the UAB School of Health Professions since 2013, provides lectures and laboratories in clinical microbiology for multiple programs in SHP. She also assists with microbiology laboratories for the School of Medicine. In addition, she teaches infectious diseases and clinical chemistry laboratories for the CLS program. She is admired by her colleagues for bringing educational creativity to the classroom and laboratory.

“It is truly a great honor to have Tera recognized by our professional society for her potential as a future leader,” said Janelle Chiasera, Ph.D., program director, CLS and chair, Department of Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences. “We hired Tera because we saw this potential in her and to have our national organization agree signifies how much of an asset she is to our program, our school and to UAB.”

Webb will be recognized at the next ASCLS Annual Meeting and Exposition which is scheduled for July 28 – August 1, 2015, in Atlanta. The honor also includes structured mentoring by senior ASCLS members.
