The School of Health Professions (SHP) Student Awards, for the summer semester of 2020, were managed by the Student Affairs Committee (SAC) with endorsement from the Program Directors. Due to COVID-19, we were not able to recognize our exceptional students with an award ceremony. Nonetheless, it does not diminish their excellence or their accomplishments.

Alfred W. Sangster Award for Outstanding International Student

This award is presented to an outstanding international student in recognition of their academic and non-academic accomplishments.

  • Diya Ann Jacob – B.S. in Health Care Management

Dean’s Award for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

This award goes to a graduate student and an undergraduate student who has made significant efforts in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) within their program, department, school or chosen field. They exhibited leadership that demonstrates inclusive excellence through positive engagement with students, faculty, and staff of different lifestyles, cultural backgrounds, and identities. They demonstrated a commitment to advocacy and higher education practices related to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the School of Health Professions and show respect and humility to all individuals, promoting an inclusive learning environment.

  • Katheryn Frank – B.S. in Biomedical Sciences
  • Akil Hawkins – Doctor of Physical Therapy
  • Ari Villanueva – B.S. in Health Care Management

Dean’s Leadership and Service Award

This award is presented to up to three outstanding students for leadership and service to the school, University, and the community. Winners show all-around excellence in GPA and other scholastic awards and achievements, collegiate and program-related public service activities while enrolled in SHP, other collegiate activities prior to enrolling in SHP, and community activities.

  • Virginia Hayley – M.S. in Biotechnology

Cecile Clardy Satterfield Award for Humanism in Health Care

This award recognizes an outstanding student for humanitarianism, professionalism and commitment to health care.
