Glasgow with Distinguished Service AwardKrystle Glasgow, MIS, CNMT, NMTCB (CT), NMAA, clinical coordinator and teacher in the UAB School of Health Professions’ Master of Science in Nuclear Medicine Technology program, received the Southeastern Chapter of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging – Technologist Section (SECSNMMI-TS) 2017 Distinguished Service honor. This is not an annual award – it is only delivered when the chapter president wishes to honor an individual for above and beyond service to the Nuclear Medicine Technology profession and the society.

“The field of Nuclear Medicine is truly a passion of mine, and I feel blessed that I have been able to be a small part of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI).  Because I have such a love for Nuclear Medicine, I have always wanted to play a role in pushing the field forward,” said Glasgow. “The SNMMI has allowed me to do that, and it has been a joy and a rewarding experience! I have always felt that if you truly are passionate about something, you need to get involved in order to make a difference. No job is ever too small if you truly care about something! I have seen the SNMMI do some amazing things, and it is exciting to be involved in an organization like the SNMMI.  I hope to continue giving back to our field and having the privilege of taking part in our professional society.”

Glasgow receiving Distinguished Service AwardGlasgow has been active both at the national and Southeastern Chapter levels of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging including:

• Member, advocacy committee, SNMMI-TS;
• Member, nominating committee, SNMMI-TS;
• Member, publication committee, SNMMI-TS;
• SNMMI-TS Leadership Academy graduate, 2016;
• Author, Salivary Imaging chapter, SNMMI-TS Gastrointestinal Mini-book, published Summer 2017;
• SNMMI-TS Alabama State Technology Advocate.

In that final role, she worked to identify changes in Alabama state laws/regulations concerning the practice of nuclear medicine; addressed all concerns and questions submitted by SNMMI-TS members from their state, and kept aware of all other news or policy changes that might affect SNMMI’s technologists.

Glasgow, who has also delivered lectures at the national and regional SNMMI meetings, received the 2017 Distinguished Service honor at the SECSNMMI Annual Meeting, which was held October 6-8, 2017, in Birmingham.

The UAB Nuclear Medicine Technology program, housed in the Department of Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences, is the first program in the United States to rise to a Master’s entry-level status. It is also the only NMT program in the state of Alabama.
