Christopher Eidson, assistant professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy, is one of twelve UAB faculty selected to receive the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. The honor is given to those who have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments in teaching.

Eidson was recognized for successfully implementing team-based learning in his assigned courses and also in other courses and programs by mentoring colleagues within the OT department, the School of Health Professions, and across UAB.

From 2006 to 2014, Eidson was the department’s academic fieldwork coordinator before moving into full-time instruction; both roles proved him a passionate and committed educator who has “worked tirelessly to understand the mechanics and delivery of team-based learning,” a colleague wrote.

“Educators need to have the ability to build trusting relationships with their students in order to create a safe, positive and productive learning environment,” he/she continued. “He cares for his students and responds to their individual needs to ensure their success.”

Eidson has been published in peer-reviewed publications such as the Journal of Educational Evaluation for Health Professionals, Optometric Education and Occupational Therapy in Health Care.

Eidson and the others will be recognized during the annual Faculty Convocation to be held later this fall. The 2020 honorees represent each school, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Honors College and the Graduate School. This story originally appeared in the UAB eReporter.
