Students/Faculty News Jessica Jernigan April 27, 2022

Jewell J. Dickson, OTD, MPH, OTR/L, ATP, FAOTA, associate professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy, was named to the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Roster of Fellows for her contributions to championing change through leadership, service, and advocacy.

The Roster of Fellows recognizes occupational therapists who have made significant contributions to the profession in continuing education and professional development with a measured impact on consumers of occupational therapy and members of the Association.

“I have a deep love and respect for the profession of occupational therapy,” said Dickson. “To be acknowledged by the American Occupational Therapy Association for this honor serves as motivation to continue educating and inspiring the next generation of occupational therapy practitioners.”

Dickson, who joined the department in 2021, has served as an active educator, researcher, author, clinician, and advocate in adult physical dysfunction and assistive technology for more than two decades. She holds specialty certification in assistive technology from the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America. Outside of her professional accomplishments, Dickson’s community-based practice centers on enhancing the wellness of incarcerated women and fulfilling the assistive technology needs of children with disabilities in Uganda.

Dickson accepted the honor as an AOTA fellow during the AOTA Annual Conference at the beginning of April. Please join us in our congratulations!
