Quorum Health provides MSHA program’s 1st ever full-ride scholarship
Lucas Prather with Tom MillerLucas Prather, a first-year student in the UAB School of Health Professions’ Master of Science in Health Administration program (MSHA Class 52), is the recipient of the inaugural Quorum Scholar in Health Administration. The Quorum gift, spearheaded by Quorum Health CEO Thomas Miller, is the first-ever full ride scholarship in the MSHA program’s 51-year history.

Bill Parker establishes 1st endowed scholarship for PA program
Bill Parker, UAB PA, Class of 1972Bill Parker, a 1972 graduate of the UAB Physician Assistant Studies program, has established the first endowed scholarship for the program. The Bill Parker Endowed Scholarship in Physician Assistant Studies will provide scholarships for current and future students – it will be awarded for the first time in the spring.

NSF approves UAB Center for Health Organization Transformation

UAB was one of only two universities selected for 2016 and is one of only six CHOT University Sites in the United States.

Albin donates Gossman thesis to UAB PT
Maurice Albin, M.D. and David Morris, Ph.D. with Gossman thesisMaurice S. Albin, M.D., professor of anesthesiology in the UAB School of Medicine, presented his copy of a Master’s Thesis, submitted by a young Marilyn Gossman, to the UAB Department of Physical Therapy as a historical archive. Albin was Gossman’s thesis Chair when she was a student at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio in 1965, when Albin was an assistant professor at the same institution.

I Can Do It You Can Do It program pairs UAB PT students and AIDB Helen Keller School studentsThe University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Physical Therapy is the first in the state of Alabama to launch the national I Can Do It, You Can Do It (ICDI) program for health promotion for individuals with disabilities. The PT program, housed in the UAB School of Health Professions, has partnered with the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition per the recommendation and encouragement of the American Physical Therapy Association’s Student Assembly.

PT program celebrates 50 years
L/R: Geneva Johnson, Jo Clelland, Betty Canaan, Cara Adams, Joan BergmanThe UAB Physical Therapy program, which began in 1964, graduated the first class of baccalaureate degrees in 1967 before there was a University of Alabama at Birmingham.On Saturday, May 17, 2014, the School of Health Professions celebrated the UAB PT program's 50th anniversary with a dinner and reception at The Club in Birmingham. In addition to alumni from nearly every class of graduates, many of the founding members were in attendance including Joan Bergman, the first physical therapist hired by University Hospital, who initiated the UAB PT program.
