Master of Science in Health Administration (MSHA Class 18) alumnus, has been named president and CEO of Quorum Health Corporation. The move became official on April 29, 2016, when Community Health Systems announced it completed the spinoff of QHC from CHS.
Thomas D. Miller,Because of spinoff, QHC has a portfolio of nearly 40 hospitals with an aggregate of just over 3,500 licensed beds. The hospitals are spread out over 16 states and are mostly located in rural cities and counties with populations of 50,000 or less.
“QHC launches with a clear vision to focus on improving the health care in every community where services are provided,” said Miller, who also serves on the UAB School of Health Professions Dean’s Advisory Board. “At a time when rural hospitals are under siege, we will use our resources to help make these hospitals essential in their communities. We look forward with determination and enthusiasm to the opportunity ahead.”
QHC will also operate Quorum Health Resources a hospital management advisory and consulting services business.
Miller, who received a UAB Distinguished Alumni Award in 2014, previously served as president of Division V Operations for CHS where he oversaw operations of hospitals in Indiana, New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania. He had been with CHS since July 2007 after their acquisition of Triad Hospitals, Inc., where he served as president and CEO of Lutheran Health Network from 1998 until 2007.
Currently, Miller has signed on to be part of the “C-Suite Forum” at the 36th annual National Symposium for Healthcare Executives. This year’s event is scheduled for July 26 – 29 in Sandestin, Florida.
He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the American Hospital Association.
