Marcellus A. Edwards, IVMarcellus A. Edwards IV, a 2016 graduate of the UAB School of Health ProfessionsMaster of Science in Biomedical and Health Sciences program, was recently awarded The Howard University Trustee Tuition Scholarship. Edwards, a first-year student in the Howard University College of Medicine, was a member of the first UAB BHS class in 2015.

“The UAB BHS program allowed me to hone my study skills, and gave me the education that allowed me to excel during my first year,” said Edwards, who earned his undergraduate degree in biology at Tuskegee University.

The merit-based award recognizes high academic achievement within a school or college. It is only awarded to full-time students with at least a 3.0 grade point average. The Howard University College of Medicine, located in Washington, D.C., was established in 1868.

The UAB Biomedical and Health Sciences program is a joint program between the School of Health Professions and the School of Medicine that provides quality education to prepare a diverse student body for entry into graduate health professions programs including medicine, dentistry, optometry, physical therapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy, and physician assistant studies. This program is critically important to provide a pipeline of academically and culturally competent future healthcare providers who are willing to practice in medically underserved areas.
