Da Silva with Faculty of the Year awardCarolyn Da Silva, PT, DSc, NCS, alumna of the UAB School of Health Professions’ Department of Physical Therapy, was awarded the 2016 Outstanding Physical Therapy Faculty Award, recognizing merit in teaching, service, and reseach. She is the first UAB alumna to win the William Gould Memorial honor from the Texas Physical Therapy Association (TPTA).

The award was given to Da Silva during the organization’s annual conference.

“I was surprised and humbled to be given this award. I strive for excellence in my patient, student, and resident- centered work, while continuing to be a lifelong learner,” said Da Silva. “I am sincerely grateful for the mentoring I received from the distinctive faculty and post-professional students at UAB, in addition to the daily support I receive from my professional ‘family’ at TWU.”

DaSilva is a professor at Texas Woman's University who teaches primarily in neurological rehabilitation for entry-level/professional and post-professional programs and is the Coordinator for Entry-Level Studies for the School of Physical Therapy. She is a consultant in the post-polio clinic at TIRR Memorial Hermann Rehabilitation and Research and works part-time in in-patient rehabilitation at Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center, in Houston. She also is on faculty for the TIRR Memorial Hermann Neurologic Residency Program in Conjunction with Texas Woman's University and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, the Harris Health Neurologic Residency Program, and the Neurorecovery Training Institute.

She is a 2008 graduate of what was then the UAB Doctor of Science in Physical Therapy program.
