The mission of CAPPI is to conduct cutting-edge research that can be developed into better treatments for addiction and pain. The faculty and staff in CAPPI seek to educate other professionals and the public about addiction and pain in a way that promotes compassion and minimizes the stigma of these two health conditions. Gregory Fleming James Cystic Fibrosis Research Center, are committed every day to understand the disease performing the most innovative research to drive the development of cutting-edge therapies that significantly improve quality of life and life expectancy of patients with Cystic Fibrosis.

The UAB Minority Health and Health Equity Center provides a critical connection between investigators and vulnerable populations. Our research and training programs enable young scientists to pursue research on health disparities, while our community outreach program identifies urgent health questions and needs and implements evidence-based strategies to reduce health disparities and promote health equity. The highlight of our work are the millions of underserved minority men, women, and children whose lives are impacted through our efforts.

the NRTC has been to provide a comprehensive interdisciplinary infrastructure and environment to support the kidney-related research continuim from molecular pathways to model systems to man. The particular emphasis of this Center will be to focus on projects/experimental strategies that integrate basic concepts and clinical insights into translational research.

The O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB is Alabama’s only cancer center designated by the National Cancer Institute and is a national leader in driving cancer research, advancing new cancer treatments, engaging communities in cancer prevention and early detection initiatives, and training the next generation of cancer physicians and scientists.

The department of Obstetrics and Gynecology established the Center for Women's Reproductive Health (CWRH) in 1993 with the mission to conduct research aimed at improving the reproductive health and survival of all women, especially minority and under-served women and offspring, and their families, and to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration between UAB researchers and others and developing scholars interested in women's reproductive health.

The Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC) is an NIH-funded, university-wide interdisciplinary research center established to foster a multidisciplinary approach to basic, clinical, and translational research and research training with an emphasis on understanding the causal factors underlying nutrition and obesity-related health problems and the generation and evaluation of evidence on their consequences, prevention, and alleviation.

The VSRC has the specific goal of creating an internationally recognized center of excellence in vision science, which, by its research and related activities, will constitute a major resource for the generation of knowledge and the training of new vision scientists.
