Required UAB COI Course
Effective August 24, 2012, all individuals responsible for the design, conduct, or reporting of research are required, by federal regulation and UAB Enterprise Policy, to complete training on conflicts of interest prior to engaging in research, charging effort to a federally-sponsored program, and every four (4) years thereafter. UAB's required training course is available through the Campus Learning System. The course is entitled "Financial Conflict of Interests in Research," and records of completion will be maintained and monitored within that system.
If you are a UAB employee (UAB Campus and HSF): Please access training by this link: Campus Learning System- Login using your Blazer ID and password.
- In the search window enter “FCOI”
- Under results, select the course "Financial Conflict of Interest" and then click on “enroll.”
- Complete both the course and the assessment (test)
- The OCIRB will be notified the first business day after you completed your training.
If you are an SR or a Children’s Hospital Employee without a UAB appointment: Please access training by this link Campus Learning System- Login using the email address you provided to UAB when your sponsored access account was established and your password. If you do not remember your username or password please contact
campuslearning@uab.edu for help. - Follow directions 2-4 above
- At the end of the presentation, follow the instructions on the last page, and submit the required form to verify your training.

Required UAB COI Retraining
Re-training in financial conflicts of interest is required by federal regulations and UAB policy every four years. You will receive an email notifying you when re-training is required. If you have received an email informing you that your training is about to expire, please follow the appropriate directions below:

FCOI Training for Non-UAB Personnel
This training is available for people who need to take UAB’s Financial Conflict of Interest Training but are not:
- UAB employees
- UAB students
