UAB’s Child Development Center has had its accreditation affirmed through 2010 from the National Association for the Education of Young Children – the nation’s leading organization of early childhood professionals.

“We’re proud to be accredited by NAEYC and recognized for our commitment to reaching the highest of professional standards,” says Robin Hollingsworth, director of the UAB Child Development Center. “NAEYC accreditation lets families in the UAB community know that children in our program are getting the best care and early learning experiences.”

UAB’s Child Development Center, which was first accredited in 1998 and again in 2001, serves children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old. It was established to provide a quality child-care facility aimed at helping parent-employees and parent-students fulfill work, study and family responsibilities without sacrificing the occupational or educational goals or the quality of their family life.  The program and policies are designed to be consistent with the university mission while placing foremost the quality of care received by the children enrolled.

“In recent years, we’ve seen a growing number of child-care and pre-school programs earning NAEYC accreditation,” says Dr. Mark Ginsberg executive director of NAEYC.  “By earning accreditation, the UAB Child Development Center has become a leader in a national effort to raise the quality of early-childhood education and to help give all children a better start.”
