Howard Day, OD, class of 1987, was named Optometrist of the Year by the 2021 Alabama Optometric Association (ALOA).
“This award means a lot to me,” Howard said. “The members of the ALOA are very important to me for all that they have done over the years to ensure that as an optometrist I am able to provide the highest level of care for our patients. I'm very honored to be the ALOA Optometrist of the Year.”
An ALOA member since 1983, Howard has held several leadership roles in the organization. He served several years as the Third Party Insurance Committee Chair and Legislative Key Person. He is currently president-elect. In 1992, he served as president of the Birmingham Area Optometric Society.
Howard owns Day Eye Care in Gardendale, AL, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in November 2020. His grandfather founded the practice in 1920 and it has been in the family for generations. Howard’s father Jim H. Day, Sr., OD, received the Optometrist of the Year award from the ALOA in 1992.
