Nu Members participated in the judging of the School of Nursing DNP Intensive held in March of this year. DNP projects were presented for blinded review. Poster presentations and judging were completed on campus. Judging consisted of a blind review of submission and face to face judging of all accepted submissions. Over thirty abstracts were submitted for blind review. Posters were judged on quality of project statement, methodology, project design and conclusions. Best Overall was “Increasing Nurse-Driven Heparin Infusion Safety: A Quality Improvement Project” by Core C. Johnson. Best Visual Display was “Identifying Patterns to Improve Healthcare for our Homeless Patients” by Vera George, Marcia Stokes, and Irene Benson. Most clinically impactful was “Building Critical Care Nurse PR actioner Competencies” By Robert Scott Kopf.

Nu members attended the 44th Biennial Convention of Sigma Theta Tau held in Indianapolis, Indiana. Over 2000 nurses attended the conference. There were 400 presentations by members from all over the world. Posters numbered over 400 as well. Topics ranging from bullying, incorporating the veteran into the field of nursing, collaborative practice, leadership development, and international practice. Attendees from NU chapter were Dr. D’ Ann Sommerall, Nu President elect 2018, Dr. Karen Coles, past president of Nu chapter, Marla Couture, Instructor UAB SON, Dr. Laura Steadman, President of Nu Chapter, Becky Langner, Publicity, Nu Chapter, and Dr. Ada Markaki, SON Faculty attended the conference. Dr. Steadman and Dr. Coles had a poster presented entitled “An Interprofessional Collaborative Practice in a Community Adult Day Healthcare Center”. Dr. Markaki presentation was titled “Transforming Palliative Care: The Compassionate Collaborative
