SNL’s Seth Meyers is UAB’s first Homecoming comedy show

Comedian Seth Meyers, a cast member on NBC's "Saturday Night Live," is being presented by the Alys Stephens Center as part of UAB's Homecoming Week.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Comedian Seth Meyers, a cast member on NBC's "Saturday Night Live," is being presented by the Alys Stephens Center as part of UAB's Homecoming Week.

Meyers will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, in UAB's Alys Stephens Center, 1200 10th Ave. South. Tickets are $15 for students and $25 for the general public. Call 205-975-2787 or visit www.AlysStephens.org.

The show is part of the UAB 2010 Homecoming Week celebration. It is presented by the UAB Homecoming Committee, Blaze Productions, the UAB University Programs Council and UAB's Alys Stephens Center.

Meyers is a writer and performer for "Saturday Night Live" and perhaps is best known as the anchor for the show's beloved news parody bit, "Weekend Update." In addition to contributing to numerous sketches, Meyers appears in the recurring "Jarret's Room" sketch as DJ Jonathan Feinstein and co-hosting the Irish talk show sketch "Top O' The Morning" as William Fitzpatrick, opposite Jimmy Fallon's Patrick Fitzwilliam. Meyers is known for his notable impressions of Hugh Grant, Russell Crowe, Tobey Maguire, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry and NBC News' Stone Phillips and Brian Williams, according to his press biography.

The New Hampshire-born Meyers graduated from Northwestern University and got his start with the improv/sketch comedy group Boom Chicago, which performed around the world. Meyers also performed with Chicago's Improv Olympics, which has been used as a springboard by many other SNL cast members and writers. During a performance at the Chicago Improv Festival, he caught the eye of SNL producers and soon was hired as a featured player.
