BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Center (MHRC) in partnership with the Birmingham Parks & Recreation Board is holding a WALK Feel Alive! celebration at Ensley Park to commemorate National Park and Recreation Month; the event will feature activities to "Celebrate, Advocate and Recreate" recreational physical activity. WALK Feel Alive!, an MHRC community-based program, encourages people to walk as a means to disease prevention and a healthier lifestyle.
The event will be from 8 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 28 at Ensley Park, 2800 Ave. K.
The event will host all 46 WALK Feel Alive! teams from the 18 recreation centers across Birmingham. The teams will have an opportunity to show their team spirit and share health messages with fellow walkers of their success and daily motivation. There also will be community health vendors, including the American Diabetes Association, City of Birmingham Fitness and Wellness, Jefferson County Child Development Office, Barbers Dairies, Medical West, and representatives from the West-End Community Garden with activities and health information.
