BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Student Jereme Lewis of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Theatre has been selected for the national Eugene O'Neill Stage Management Fellowship in Connecticut June 20-Aug. 15.

Lewis, 20, a senior, won the fellowship after taking top honors in the National Stage Management Fellowship Program at the national Kennedy Center for American College Theater Festival in Washington, D.C. His work was reviewed by professional stage managers and then selected for competition at the national level. He was then selected from eight regional winners nationwide, which included graduate students.

For the first two months of the fellowship Lewis will be the assistant stage manager for the National Playwriting Conference, then in the last two weeks he will manage at least one of the 12 shows in the O'Neill Cabaret.

Lewis is the son of Wanda and Perry Wilds of Enterprise.

About the UAB Department of Theatre

The UAB Department of Theatre has won the highest honors awarded to university theaters, including best in region from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF). In 2008, UAB's production of "In the Blood" was one of three shows chosen by KCACTF from 300 in consideration nationwide. Faculty members in the department continue to work professionally in addition to teaching. UAB Theatre performances are presented at the Alys Stephens Center, UAB's own world-class performing arts center. This year the department celebrates its 40th anniversary. It is part of the UAB College of Arts and Sciences, home to academic disciplines that include the arts, humanities, sciences and the School of Education.
